Loving Teaching – feeling blessed

September is tough on teachers (and kids, and parents),  I especially find that with all the extra administrative tasks this month.  Sometimes I’m up until midnight working, or waking up at 5:00 am to get something done before work. But you know what?! I LOVE TEACHING!  And the students I have this year are amazing! I got this super gift from my Moonbeams 2 student Lily, on the weekend.  She was inspired by our lesson last week and learning about stem directions.  She has a lot of info in here – Thanks so much Lily!:

Practice Panic

We have begun our adventure in music-making once again. To me, September 1st is the real New Year’s Eve. The new school year, new friends, new games, new stickers, new school supplies, new fresh crisp books. So what happens with the shininess wears off the newness of returning, and the reality of practice and routine hits. Are you having practising struggles? If so, you’re not the only one. Summer vacation and holidays have a great deal of freedom with little focus and structure. Practicing requires both structure and focus, and this change can create some panic with the associated feeling …

A New Look

(Okay, I’m totally in MYC mode, just humming the SB2 “A New Look” song right now. ) You’ve probably already noticed that I’ve updated my website to give it a new look. I discovered that many people were accessing my site from a phone or tablet, so I decided to make it look smoother. Please let me know what you think.

Time is Ticking to get into new classes

I can’t believe it’s already September.  I wish you and your family a wonderful long weekend.  Parents often ask me what students learn in class,  or sometimes they favor one aspect over the other.  Here’s a small clip of a round we sing in Sunbeams 3.  These students are amazing, not only singing in the round, but also putting up with me placing them next to people singing the opposite part.  🙂 http://musicnora.ca/Downloads/Grandfather Clock Trim  Grandfather’s Clock by Nora’s Sunbeams 3 class. Want to train your brain? Join our classes

(Illustraion by Sofie Wolfson) “While brain training games and apps may not live up to their hype, it is well established that certain other activities and lifestyle choices can have neurological benefits that promote overall brain health and may help to keep the mind sharp as we get older. One of these is musical training. Research shows that learning to play a musical instrument is beneficial for children and adults alike, and may even be helpful to patients recovering from brain injuries.”  There is so much research to back this up.  Learning to play music has the ability to change our brains. …

Birthday Surprise

I love to hear from my previous students.  I often wonder what they have been up to for the past several years.  (On my birthday) I just heard from a student that graduated from MYC in 2012 after completing the full program with me.  I am so happy that the parent took the time to email me as I love to hear what they have been up do.  For those parents that are disappointed if their kids stop music after MYC, just know that everything they are learning stays with them forever.  I even get adults singing about Fireman Fred …

Summer Fun Booklet

Hello Everyone, I hope that you’re enjoying the summer holidays! For those of you registered for level 2 or higher with me, you should have received a Summer Fun Booklet. This just has some fun musical activities to do during our break – a fun way to do a little review before classes start up again.  Doing just one a week works well, and if all the activities are completed- I’ll have a little treat ready for the kids at the first class.
